奥运会跨栏冠军Dawn Harper在1984年夏奥会开幕前几个月出生了。就在1986年这次奥运会上，Jackie Joyner-Kersee获得了她第一枚金牌。同Joyner-Kersee一样，Harper在伊利诺斯的圣路易斯东部长大。小时候，她就想进入UCLA学习，一部分是因为Joyner-Kersee就是在这开始她的传奇的。当Harper被Jeanette Bolden招进UCLA时，她的一个梦想就已经实现了，而其他的梦想也是触手可及了。很快，她在美国青少年全国冠军赛和泛美运动会中获得100米跨栏冠军。2008年，就在她才做过膝盖手术几个月后，她获得了奥运金牌。四年后，又一次膝盖手术之后，她参加了伦敦奥运会，她的表现不俗，跑出了她100米跨栏的最快速度，获得银牌。

Following another's footsteps, she left some big shoes to fill.

Olympic hurdles champion Dawn Harper was born just a few months before the 1984 Summer Olympics, when Jackie Joyner-Kersee ‘86 won her first Olympic medal. Like Joyner-Kersee, Harper grew up in East St. Louis, Illinois. As a youngster Harper aspired to attend UCLA, in part because it was where Joyner-Kersee had launched her legendary career. When Harper was recruited to UCLA by Coach Jeanette Bolden, one dream had come true, and others were within her grasp. Soon, she was claiming 100-meter hurdles titles at the U.S. junior national championships and the Pan-American Games. In 2008, only months after knee surgery, Harper earned an Olympic gold medal of her own. Four years later, and after another knee surgery, Harper pulled out an impressive repeat performance at the London Games, running her fastest-ever 100-meter hurdles to claim an Olympic silver medal.
