From November 18-22, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education are celebrating International Education Week (IEW) by encouraging Americans to seek opportunities to study abroad and welcoming international students to study in the United States.  International education makes the United States stronger, forging lasting connections between Americans and peers in other countries, bringing benefits to local communities, and generating knowledge to solve shared challenges.

During IEW, events at schools, universities and communities across the United States and around the world will focus on the importance of international education in fostering security and economic growth and highlight why more students should experience international education.

To open IEW, the State Department, in collaboration with the Institute of International Education, released the annual Open Doors report of data and trends in international academic mobility.  In academic year 2018/19, for the fourth year in a row, more than one million international students studied at U.S. institutions of higher education, with an increase of .05 percent over last year.  The number of American students studying abroad also increased by 2.7 percent from the prior year, to 341,751 Americans.

为了开启IEW,美国国务院与国际教育研究所(Institute of International Education)合作发布了《国际学术流动数据与趋势》(open Doors report of data and trends in International academic mobility)年度报告。

International students have a major positive impact on American communities, enriching U.S. classrooms with new perspectives, contributing nearly $45 billion to the U.S. economy, and supporting over 455,000 U.S. jobs last year.

The State Department’s global network of 435 EducationUSA advising centers in 178 countries promotes U.S. higher education to students around the world by offering accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study at accredited postsecondary institutions in the United States.

We are also engaging in key markets like China, India, Colombia, and Brazil.  Through print, TV, and radio interviews, we are reinforcing the message that we welcome international students.  In India we have created an Education USA advising app to allow students connect to our Education USA advisors virtually.

The State Department continues to support and broaden participation in U.S.-sponsored exchange programs, including the Fulbright Program, the Critical Language Scholarship Program, and the Gilman Program.

国务院继续支持并扩大美国参与资助的交流项目,包括富布赖特项目(the Fulbright Program)、关键语言奖学金项目(the Critical Language Scholarship Program)和吉尔曼项目(the Gilman Program)。
